Cancara is a big-framed stallion with an appearance clearly stamped by his sire Cassini I. At the Neumünster stallion grading he performed brilliantly in all phases over the jumps, and counted among the stallions demonstrating the greatest jumping ability. This stallion carries highly interesting bloodlines as his dam Lacosta comes from stem 162, one of the most successful mare families in the world. As yet, stem 162 has produced a number of Olympic horses,Cöster, Carthago Z, Canturo, Waterford Crystal, Feinschnitt, Foliant andMadrigal. Stem 162 has several branches. Cancara goes back to the branch of Meistergrad daughter Katrin, who is considered a foundation mare at Peter Reimer Janssen’s Kattrepel stud farm. She is 3rd damto Non Stop, a highly successful jumper sire in the Belgian breeding programme, and 2nd dam to Cöster, who won individual and team gold with Christian Ahlman at the 2005 Europeans and team bronze for the German team at the Athens Olympics in 2004.
Cancara was 70-day performance tested at Schlieckau in 2009 and was graded 10.0 for jumping ability as well as jumping technique and 9.75 for stadium jumping in the final test. Because of his frequent use at stud, Cancara was competed only a few times but was able to place in young jumper classes under Lars Bak Andersen. His foals were characterised by particular convincing movement and very good type.Cancara was stationed at Zangersheide during the 2012 breeding season. After that he was made available to the breeders in the USA at Karen Reid’s for three years and is now stationed at Elmshorn again.Numerous highly interesting sport horse offspring have attracted attention in recent years, like Classic Edition, top-selling lot of the Holsteiner spring auction in 2014, and Consoto, a bright young jumper talent who was sold to the stable of US top rider Kent Farrington through the Holsteiner Elite Auction. Other successful young sporthorse by Cancara include Carolina under Manfred Ege and Atlanta under Hanna Elin Ottersky with first results at FEI S level. Other internationally successful young horses are for example Paypawers Casila under Jeff Paw Nielsen (DEN), Be Happy with Andrej Holly (SVK) and Concorde under Stijn van Gorp (BEL).
